Bitmain Unveils ‘Most Efficient’ Mining Rig Amid Market Shift

Bitmain has launched the Antminer S23 Hydro series, featuring a performance of 580 terahash per second (TH/s) and a power consumption of 5,510 watts, making it the “most efficient” mining rig available.

Declining Demand for Mining Rigs

Bitcoin mining rig maker Bitmain unveiled the new Antminer S23 Hydro series, which reportedly boasts 580 terahash per second (TH/s) with a power consumption of 5,510 watts. This performance, equating to an efficiency rate of 9.5 joules per terahash (J/TH), makes the Antminer the “most efficient” mining rig on the market.

According to theminermag.com’s latest report, the new rig is especially suited for bitcoin miners looking to maximize output while keeping operational costs in check. It was launched at the World Digital Mining Summit (WDMS) 2025, an event where Irene Gao, president of mining at Bitmain, discussed her company’s strategy for dealing with the drop in demand for mining rigs.

As highlighted in the analysis, Bitmain is offering flexible payment terms, including an option to pay in three installments starting with 40% of the sale value, followed by two equal payments. Buyers have the option to pledge bitcoin ( BTC) for up to six months to secure the mining rigs.

Following the most recent BTC halving on April 20, 2024, which reduced the block reward from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC, bitcoin miners have seen their revenues dwindle. This has left mining companies with the option to either upgrade to more energy-efficient machines or seek cheaper energy. Mining companies failing to achieve either could be forced to shut down operations.

Meanwhile, the report asserts that ASIC hardware buyers now hold more bargaining power, as seen in recent deals. It said companies like Cleanspark, Hut 8, and HIVE secured favorable terms from Bitmain, taking advantage of lower demand and manufacturers’ need to maintain sales despite tightening margins.

Bitmain meanwhile expects to make the first shipments of the latest Antminer S23 Hydro in the first quarter of 2026, with early buyers expected to get discounts.
