IOTA Launches Mainnet Rebased May 5, 13 Validators to Lead Genesis Ceremony to Migrate from Stardust to Delegated Proof-of-Stake

IOTA will complete a major network transformation on May 5, 2025, launching the Rebased mainnet at an official launch ceremony. The event will mark the transition from the Stardust protocol to a delegated Proof-of-Stake (dPoS) structure. Thirteen Genesis validators will perform the initial steps to activate the new network, including validating and migrating all ledger data from the old system.

The decision to migrate was made through a community vote and is being coordinated to minimize downtime and maintain full asset integrity during the migration. The launch of Rebased will mark a major change to IOTA’s architecture. The move toward decentralization is the culmination of years of development and planning. The validators for the ceremony were carefully selected based on their technical readiness and alignment with IOTA’s governance goals.

Genesis validators are tasked with establishing the base state of the Rebased network ledger. Each validator will create and verify a Genesis file that will reflect a state identical to the final Stardust network ledger. Each account balance and address is recorded to ensure uninterrupted access for token holders. This procedure is designed to prevent errors and unauthorized access. Validators have prepared for the transition through months of testing and coordination. By holding a live ceremony, IOTA aims to eliminate the need for a stealth or soft launch and has opted for a visible, transparent transition.
